How to Build a List of Companies


Build a list of companies to find prospects based on specific search criteria, including location, industry, news, and more. 

Step Description Details
 1 Go to the List Building page

Go to InsideView CRM View and then click Build a List.



In the InsideView Web View interface, click Build a List.


 2 Select Company List On the Build a List page, click Company List to build a list of companies.
 3 Search with Location search criteria

The Locations list enables you to search for companies using the following geographical criteria:

  • City/State: Select City/State from the Locations list then enter a city's name in the City field.
    • To search for companies within a particular state, enter the code for the state in the State field, and leave the City field blank.
    • To search for companies in a particular country, select the country name from the Country drop-down list.
  • Zip Codes: Select Zip Codes from the Locations list, then enter the zip code(s) in the Zip Code field. Use commas to separate multiple zip codes.
  • Area Codes: Select Area Codes from the Locations list, then enter the area code(s) in the Area Code field to search for companies operating in specific areas. Use commas to separate multiple zip codes.
  • Countries: Select Countries from the Locations list, then, click the Country field and select the country from the drop-down list. To select multiple countries, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking.
  • Regions: Select Regions from the Locations list, then click the Regions field and select the geographical region such as Asia or Middle East from the drop-down list. To select multiple regions, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking.
  • Saved geographic territories: Click any of the geographic territories you have created to search for companies within the territory. To create a new territory, click the New Geographic Territory link next to Location. Read the article How to Build a Geographic territory on our Knowledge Base.
 4 Enter the Employee count and Revenue Use the Number of Employees and Revenue fields to enter a range for the employee count and the revenue of the companies you want to target. For example, if you enter 100 to 500 in Number of Employees and 5M to 2.5B in Revenue, the search returns only those companies with 100-500 employees working for them and with revenue that ranges from 5 million to 2.5 billion US dollars.
 5 Select the Industries

Select an industry from the Industry drop-down list, then select any applicable sub-industries. You can also enter an industry’s SIC or NAICS code here. The InsideView database will allow you to search using either 2007 or 2012 NAICS codes. 

Note: Remember to uncheck the Only search primary NAICS option on the Build a List page in order for this to work.  

 6 Select the Business Type Under the Business Type section, select the type (public, private, etc.), status (acquired, subsidiary, etc.), ranking (listing on Fortune 500 or Fortune 1000) and financial year end of the companies you want to target. 
 7 Enter the Smart Agents Under the News section, click Smart Agent and select an agent such as Expanding Operations, or click Keywords and enter the keywords that represent the best sales triggers for your offerings.
 8 Filter Companies  Under the Connections section, filter only the companies you connect to based on the connection types that matter to you. For example, you can select People you know with affiliations through your Alumni to find direct connections in the target companies. If you select People your co-workers know to find connections through their affiliations, your list will comprise companies your co-workers are connected to. 
 9 Search Click Search
 10 View the details and modify criteria On the search results page, point to a company's name to view a summary of the company details. If you want to make changes to your criteria, click Modify Criteria.
 11 Save Search

To save your search criteria, click Save Search, then enter a name for the search for future reference.


Include Customer Results

NoteThis feature works only for Company Reference (alternatively known as Enterprise Reference) customers. 

Select the Include Customer Results check box if you would want to include all reference customers you added in the results. When you do this and build a list, all companies you added as reference customers will be included in the search results. 

Uncheck this box if you do not want to include reference customers in your list build search results. When you do this, the search result will omit these companies from the search results.
